Course overview:

Transformers are very reliable devices and can provide service for a long time if regularly maintained. Modern transformers and switchgear are much more efficient than they were half a century ago but are subjected to more power dips and harmonic distortion than before. Transformer failures, when they occur, are usually of a very serious nature and require costly repairs and long downtime. The best policy against transformer failure is to ensure that transformers are properly operated and maintained. For all practical purposes transformer life expectancy beyond 20 years significantly depends on the quality of maintenance applied to it.

This course focuses on critical issues that should be considered in establishing good operating practices and implementing an effective transformer and switchgear maintenance program. It provides very practical guidance for maintenance scheduling, operational and testing procedures to achieve long service life of power and distribution transformers and switchgear.

Learning outcomes:

  • Learn about transformer construction, critical transformer parameters, operating conditions, and how to control aging accelerators to ensure the long life of transformers
  • Know how to select switchgear for your application
  • Understand underlying causes of transformer and switchgear failures, how to investigate and prevent failures through various testing techniques and how to interpret test data
  • Explore various maintenance strategies, technical and organizational aspects of maintenance and maintenance activities that would ensure an effective transformer and switchgear maintenance program
  • Discuss testing procedures, various case studies, and a typical maintenance schedule through an interactive workshop
  • Understand factory and site acceptance testing

Who is this Training Course for?

  • Those who are involved in the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, testing, control, and operation of electrical substation equipment
  • Industrial, utility, or plant engineers
  • Maintenance Engineer
  • Process Controller
  • Maintenance supervisors
  • Consulting engineers
  • Electric utility engineers

While both In-House and Online training can present with cost-effectiveness and time-efficacy, there are some very specific differences between in-house courses and those based online.
The demand for additional courses by individuals or groups of people is increasing. Still, it depends entirely on the preferences of a person what type of training he or she wants to receive. Online courses and in-house training carry some similarities but they are considered to exhibit some very pivotal differences too. Despite that, both types of learning can be really beneficial for attendees.
